Gordon Loesch, WPXI-TV

Gordon Loesch co-anchors Channel 11 News Morning News and at noon. He arrived at Channel 11 in January 2004, and has previously served as the 10 p.m., noon and weekend evening news anchor. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Gordon was raised in Michigan and graduated from Central Michigan University. He likes to think he started his news career in 5th grade... delivering newspapers for the Iron Mountain Daily News! In high school and college, he worked at radio stations in Iron Mountain and Mt Pleasant, MI as a newscaster and DJ, and began his work in television as a reporter and photographer at WWTV in Cadillac-Traverse City, Michigan, while still in college. Gordon worked as weekend anchor and then morning anchor at WKBN in Youngstown, Ohio, and then moved to WXYZ in Detroit, where he was a reporter and fill-in anchor. Gordon has been honored with 6 Emmy awards, including the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Emmy for best news anchor, and has 20 other Emmy nominations, including 7 in the best anchor and best reporter categories. Gordon has also been recognized with Edward R. Murrow, Michigan Association of Broadcasters, Associated Press, and Golden Quill awards in breaking news, features, and best reporter categories. Among the most memorable stories of Gordon’s career is the western Pennsylvania flood of 2004, when he and his photographer witnessed the dramatic rescue of a deaf and physically impaired woman who was trapped in her car in floodwaters. A police sergeant who couldn’t swim made the rescue they exclusively captured on video. Gordon has covered some of the biggest stories in Pittsburgh over the last two decades, including anchoring live coverage of the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse and the mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue. He's reported live in the aftermath of everything from tornadoes, floods, and winter storms to house explosions and presidential visits. He traveled to cover gubernatorial and U.S. Senate election night results in Harrisburg, Allentown, York, and Philadelphia, and the New Hampshire Presidential Primary. Gordon was in Philadelphia for the deadly Amtrak train crash, and in Blacksburg, VA for the Virginia Tech shooting massacre. He was one of the first reporters on the scene of the LA Fitness shooting spree and the Sago mine disaster, and was on the streets reporting during the G-20 protests. He also traveled to Vatican City to cover the death of Pope John Paul II and reported from Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Washington D.C. Gordon has followed Pittsburgh sports fans across the country for Steelers' Super Bowl games in Detroit, Tampa, and Dallas, and the Penguins’ Stanley Cup Finals, including the team's visit to the White House. He also reported live from the Winter Classics in Chicago, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. Gordon was the only Pittsburgh television reporter to follow local athletes to the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Rio de Janeiro, and Vancouver. And he took to the skies to pull 9G's with the USAF Thunderbirds in an F-16 Fighting Falcon during the Wings Over Pittsburgh Air Show (but, admittedly, he was airsick the entire flight). Gordon is married with a daughter and lives in Washington County. He volunteers for numerous local charity events. And in his spare time, you'll find him recovering from the latest in a never-ending series of injuries while training and competing in marathons, 50k's, Ironman triathlons, and 100-mile run trail races.
