Liz Kilmer is a Pennsylvania native and anchor of Channel 11 Morning News. She joined the WPXI-TV news team as a reporter in January of 2018, and her work in Pittsburgh has resulted in multiple Emmy wins, as well as an Edward R. Murrow award. Before anchoring for the morning show, Liz played a major role in launching two newscasts produced by WPXI. She anchored alongside Pittsburgh legend David Johnson for the start of Channel 11 News on FOX 53 at 6:30 p.m., and reported on the Breaking News Desk for the debut of Channel 11 News at 4 p.m. She began her career at WPXI as a morning reporter, earning two Emmys for her live coverage. In 2024, she received an Emmy and Edward R. Murrow award for her anchoring amid an active shooter situation. She has covered many significant events in Pittsburgh, including the Tree of Life massacre. Liz was on the ground outside of the synagogue minutes after Robert Bowers committed the worst antisemitic mass shooting in U.S. history, and saw the case through to the end, anchoring wall-to-wall when a federal jury ultimately sentenced Bowers to death. Before moving to Pittsburgh, Liz reported for WAVY-TV in coastal Virginia, chasing breaking news in the evenings (and enjoying warm winters by the beach)! Prior to moving south, Liz reported within a different region of PA, working for WFMZ-TV in Berks County. There, she had the opportunity to cover several high-profile corruption investigations, from the indictment of Attorney General Kathleen Kane, to an alleged “pay-to-play” scheme among city officials in Reading and Allentown. In 2014, she discussed a wrongful death case live before a nationwide audience on HLN. That case, involving a mother who died serving jail time for truancy violations, resulted in new state legislation. Liz began her career as a multimedia journalist at WAND-TV in Central Illinois. There, she shot and edited her own stories while operating a bureau in Champaign. Liz got her first taste of broadcast journalism as a student at Ursinus College, not far from where she grew up in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. There, she interned at two television stations in Philadelphia. She also spent a semester in London, working at a radio station and interviewing British celebrities and politicians. Liz graduated Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude, with a degree in Media and Communication Studies and an academic minor in English. Outside of her professional life, Liz serves as a tv binge-consumer, discerning foodie, social media junkie, reluctant runner, proud wife, and boy mom (not in order of significance).
