Flurries, snow showers Friday evening, temperatures drop overnight Saturday

PITTSBURGH — Flurries and snow showers will move through the area early this evening which could drop a coating in spots. Then mostly cloudy and very cold overnight, temperatures tumble to around 20 degrees with wind chills dropping to the single digits into early Saturday morning.

Snow showers will shut off for our area locally this evening, but heavy lake effect snow will continue for areas near Lake Erie. Areas along I-90 near the lake from just east of Cleveland to around Erie, PA could see over 1-2 feet of snow in spots this weekend. Along I-90 from the PA boarder towards Buffalo, NY could see even higher amount of over 3 feet of snow in some locations.

The cold is the main headline here locally this weekend. Sun and clouds for Saturday, highs will struggle to get to the 30-degree mark with wind chills starting the day in the single digits and then through the teen during the day. Again, Sunday will feature temperatures below freezing with the chance of a few snow showers at night.

Colder than average weather is expected for most of next week with the next system potentially moving through the area Wednesday and Thursday.
