PITTSBURGH — A wintry mix of rain, snow, sleet and freezing rain will move into the area by mid-day Saturday, but steadier precipitation will move in late in the day. Temperatures will be very borderline, so impacts will depend on where temperatures stay closer to 31 or 32 degrees. Right now, that’s most likely for areas just north of Pittsburgh and along the Route 422 corridor, where up to a tenth of an inch of ice may accumulate.
Places south of Pittsburgh and toward the Mon Valley should stay mainly rain, with any ice mainly affecting elevated surfaces around the city. Road conditions will quickly change where freezing rain falls so check the live Severe Weather Team 11 forecast before heading out and have the Severe Weather Team 11 app for the latest alerts, watches and warnings.
This system could also bring a few thunderstorms through the afternoon so don’t be surprised if you hear rumbles of thunder.
The weather should be quiet as we wrap up the weekend with clouds and maybe a few morning flurries on Sunday. We’ll enjoy a nice break Monday before the next round of light, steady snow moves in Tuesday.
