BETHEL PARK, Pa. — Another group of local Starbucks workers have voted to unionize.
The workers at the Bethel Park location voted to join Starbucks Workers United. It was the 40th location in Pennsylvania and the 19th in the Pittsburgh area to join, a union representative said.
“I’m so glad that all the partners in our store got a chance to use their voice for what they thought was their best choice,” said Paige Merriweather, a 3-year barista.
The vote came just a few days after Starbucks announced it would reduce its menu by 30%. The cafe chain also eliminated its open-door policy for customers several weeks ago.

“I am incredibly proud of our partners for their dedication and hard work. The decision to unionize is a powerful reflection of the strength and unity within our team. Our partners are some of the most hardworking people I know, and this vote marks an important moment in our store’s history,” said Greyson Scurco, a shift supervisor of 4 years. “The results of this election will pave the way for positive changes, fostering a more supportive and empowering environment for all. We are excited about the opportunities ahead and committed to continuing to work together to create a workplace that reflects our values of respect, fairness, and collaboration.”
Both Starbucks and Workers United have expressed frustration about stalled negotiations. Both sides blame the other for a lack of progress.
