Pennsylvania Turnpike toll increases go into effect on Sunday

Pennsylvania Turnpike (Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission)

PITTSBURGH — The price of Pennsylvania Turnpike tolls will increase on Sunday.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission approved a 5% increase in tolls due to ongoing debt repayment. Turnpike officials say the increase still keeps the rate in the mid-range for toll prices, and most trips will see an increased cost of less than $1.

The new toll schedule also moves the Pennsylvania Turnpike to a consistent pre-rate mile and changes how vehicles are classified to meet national standards. Because of these changes, some drivers could see a decrease in their toll rates.

Toll changes come as turnpike officials prepare to switch from “stop and go” tolling to “open road” tolling in the eastern part of the state. Cashless tolling starts east of Reading on Sunday. The Turnpike Commission plans to expand this type of tolling to the western part of the state by early 2027.
