New video from inside PRT bus shows moments leading up to man’s fall onto busy street

PITTSBURGH — A shocking incident unfolded on July 10, when a passenger tumbled off a moving Port Authority bus at the busy intersection of Arlington Avenue and South 18th Street. The alarming moment was captured on video.

On Tuesday, Channel 11 News spoke with a woman who was on the bus. She captured the incident from inside and shared the video with our station.

In the footage, the man can be seen standing in the doorway of the bus, refusing to exit despite the driver’s repeated requests.

“He was not getting off,” said one passenger who witnessed the chaotic scene. “The bus driver even tried to close the door on him, but he wouldn’t budge.”

The situation escalated quickly. As tensions rose, the bus driver shouted for the man to get off, while the man shouted back to be let off. When the driver resumed his route without the man exiting the bus, the passenger made a sudden decision. “He just jumped off,” the passenger recounted.

Channel 11 News reached out to the Port Authority for clarification on whether the man jumped or fell from the bus, but they declined to comment on the incident.

The video shows the man lying in the roadway.

According to the passenger, the bus did come to a stop after the incident.

“He stopped for at least 5 to 10 minutes, but people started complaining,” she explained. However, she was uncertain if the police had been called to the scene.

The passenger expressed her concern for the man after witnessing the frightening event.

“It was scary, I won’t lie. My heart was racing because who just jumps off a bus? I was really worried about how he was afterward,” she added.

The Port Authority police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
