PITTSBURGH — A restaurant in Carrick has been ordered to close after the Allegheny County Department of Health found multiple health code violations.
Nepali Asian Restaurant on Brownsville Road was found to have several food items found adulterated by bugs.
According to a health department report, more than five dead fruit flies in an open bag of flour, a dried German cockroach in a pan of salt, a live juvenile German cockroach in a container of white rice in dry storage, roaches in the pasta and onions and “too many to count” live roaches in the dry storage room.
There was also a potato found punctured by wooden dowels and covered in ash, as well as two spoiled cucumbers.
The report also states there was no evidence of sanitizing procedures, as well as no sanitizer or dish detergent at the facility and no chlorine found in the chemical dishwasher.
The health department recommends eliminating pests by approved methods, sanitization and proper maintenance of food, among other things.
