An aide at an assisted living facility in Westmoreland County is facing charges on accusations she stole and used a patient’s debit card.
Police were alerted of the possible theft on Friday when a man was alerted to a suspicious $133 charge at a New Kensington Giant Eagle on his mother’s debit card, who is a patient at Quality Life Services in Apollo.
After learning of the charge, nurses checked to see if the woman had her debit card. The woman said she didn’t have it and the last time she remembered seeing the debit card was Friday morning, in the possession of her aide, Lakeisha Pugh.
It was later determined that the woman was also missing her driver’s license, social security card and birth certificate.
Court documents say surveillance video from the Giant Eagle “clearly showed” Pugh making a purchase with the victim’s debit card.
Pugh, who was working at Quality Life Services through a third party and is a resident of Louisiana, was arrested Monday. She faces several charges, including financial exploitation of an older adult, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
Pugh was taken to the Westmoreland County Prison and denied bail. The court documents allege she has a history of theft and access device fraud and is considered a flight risk because of her Louisiana residency.
