Pennsylvania governor’s race is set as Democrats aim for US House gains once they settle primaries
Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro and Republican Stacy Garrity will face each other in November after winning their uncontested primaries in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, setting up a November contest for the executive suite in a premier presidential battleground state.
Shapiro will go into the fall as a heavy favorite to win reelection over Garrity, the state treasurer. Shapiro is on track to break his own campaign spending record and has reported outraising Garrity by more than 10-to-1.
For Shapiro, the election year is more than an opportunity to win a second term: It’s a chance show his battleground-state political strength should he decide to run for president in 2028.
Political newcomer wins Democratic nomination for PA’s 45th District Representative seat
Political newcomer Brittany Bloam has won the Democratic Primary in the race for PA’s 45th District Representative to the State Assembly.
Bloam defeated longtime Allegheny County Councilman Pat Catena. Catena has been on the council for a decade and serves as its president.
Catena conceded the race to Bloam before 10 p.m., Tuesday.
State Sen. Camera Bartolotta fends off challenger for GOP nomination
Republican State Senator Camera Bartolotta fended off her primary challenger.
Bartolotta just gave her victory speech to a crowd of her supporters at Bella Sera.
She ended up winning the race with 55% of the vote.
