Scattered showers, possible storm Thursday afternoon

PITTSBURGH — We’re seeing a nice break in the action now after a busy day yesterday and busy morning. A cold front will cross the area this afternoon and may bring some scattered showers and possibly a storm. Otherwise, it will be mild and windy.

As a disturbance moves along the stalling front, expect coverage of rain to increase this evening. Bouts of heavy rain will move through overnight, especially south and west of Pittsburgh where up to 2″ of rain is possible. The good news is there will be many dry hours during the day Friday, with just stray light showers possible during the home opener.

The front will start to head back north late Friday and Saturday, bringing more stormy weather Saturday morning and then again during the afternoon. Colder air will press in late Sunday and may even bring us a wave of light snow late Sunday night.

Temperatures will be below average early next week, with very chilly air being felt Tuesday.
