Wednesday will be dry ahead of wet weather to end the week

PITTSBURGH — Look for a dry start Wednesday ahead of the next big system on the way for the end of the week. Steady rain develops in the evening and winds pick up; gusts will reach 20-30 mph with higher winds in the ridges up to 40 mph. As this round precipitation moves out around midnight rain mixes to snow showers in the mountains before tapering off.

Expect a lot of dry hours early Thursday, it will be cloudy and cold with scattered rain and snow showers at times. Impacts are not expected during daylight hours Thursday but in the ridges and mountain roads could turn slippery just after sunset Thursday evening. More snow showers are expected overnight Thursday into Friday morning with the chance of some local slippery road impacts for the Friday morning commute, especially on bridges and overpasses. Friday will be cold and windy with snow showers that will mix with rain showers later in the day. Wind chills will be in the 20s both Thursday and Friday.

A slushy snow accumulation is possible for parts of the area especially some accumulation on the grass, trees and cars with the potential of higher amounts in the ridges and mountains late Thursday night and into Friday morning. Right now, it’s still too early to pinpoint exact amounts and locations.
