PITTSBURGH — Snow will slow the morning commute Friday morning, so allow some extra time before you head out.
Snow develops before sunrise with most areas picking up a coating to as much as 1″ of snow by sunrise, so watch steps and sidewalks and plan for delays on the roads.
Crews will battle light snow through mid-morning before the first part of the system moves out, however, lake effect snow could bring bands of additional accumulating snow through the afternoon and early evening. These bands could bring quick accumulations which could cover roads and reduce visibility.
By Saturday most areas in the lower elevations will pick up 1″ to 3″ of snow with locations seeing lake effect snow bands getting totals of 4″ or more.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for most of the area through Saturday morning and a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the mountains.
More snow is in the forecast Sunday night into Monday.
