2 men charged in Homewood shooting that killed 1 person

PITTSBURGH — One person is dead and another person has been hospitalized following a shooting in Pittsburgh’s Homewood North.

Police responded to Monticello Street just after 2 a.m. for reports of a man shot several times outside of a running vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have confirmed that another man showed up at UPMC Shadyside a short time later with gunshot wounds as well. He was transferred to a level one trauma center in critical, but stable condition.

Police recovered shell casings and a gun at the scene.

Two men have been charged in connection to the shooting. Online court records show Lavelle Johnson and Shawn Collins were both charged with criminal homicide, among other crimes.

A criminal complaint alleges that Johnson fired at the victim while he and Collins tried to rob him, but the victim shot back and injured him.

Collins was taken into custody. An arrest warrant is still out for Johnson.
