The crash happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. along Liberty Street. No one was hurt.
State police said it was a very short pursuit, that as soon as troopers put their lights on, the driver sped away, crashing into the post office within minutes.
A neighbor’s surveillance video shows a man, believed to be the driver, leaving the scene through a back patio around 1:35 in the morning.
“I’ve been doing this 50 years, so it was like, ‘Well, this is interesting,” said Kevin Logan, assistant fire chief for Dickerson Run, Liberty, & Vanderbilt VFD.
Logan said the driver took out a 30-foot fence, hit a street sign, and crashed into two cars along Walnut Street.
No arrests have been made, yet.
Channel 11 spoke with Vanderbilt’s postmaster, who said crews plan to retrieve any mail inside of the building if and when the structure is deemed secure. She said any incoming mail will be diverted to the Dawson location that will serve this community for the time being.
We reached out to the company whose name appeared on the pickup truck but haven’t heard back.
There is no timeframe for when the Vanderbilt Post Office will reopen.
