McKEESPORT, Pa. — A man was shot outside of UPMC McKeesport hospital on Tuesday morning.

Allegheny County police say they were called to the hospital on Fifth Avenue at 3:36 a.m.
When first responders arrived on scene, they found a man who had been shot. He is in critical condition.
The shooting happened at the entrance to the emergency room parking lot. Police said the early investigation shows the victim tried to force his way into a vehicle when the shooting happened.
Detectives later learned that a UPMC Police officer fired multiple shots, but it doesn’t appear that anyone was hit by their gunfire.
Our Channel 11 crew on the scene could see nearly a dozen evidence markers on the ground and police tape surrounding a white car.
Allegheny County Police said all individuals are accounted for and there is no danger to the public.
Police continue to investigate.
UPMC sent the following statement to Channel 11 regarding the shooting:
“An incident involving two individuals occurred outside the Emergency Department at UPMC McKeesport. The incident escalated with shots fired and one of the individuals involved struck. UPMC Police in the ED responded swiftly to help contain the incident to the parking lot, aiding local police in apprehending the individual responsible. No one else was injured. Our Emergency Department will reopen as soon as able.
“Magee-Womens Specialty Services at UPMC McKeesport, located inside of the hospital, sustained some damage following the incident and will be closed to patients today. Patients are being contacted by the office to reschedule.”
