MCCANDLESS — A woman has died after she was hit by a car while walking her dog in McCandless on Tuesday afternoon.
Allegheny County 911 dispatchers told Channel 11 that police, fire and EMS units were sent to Highland Road and Harmony Drive at 5:45 p.m.
Sources tell Channel 11 that a woman was crossing Highland Road from Harmony Drive when she was hit by a driver making a left turn. She and the dog died.
The driver stayed on scene.
Channel 11 learned the crash happened not far from the victim’s home. We spoke with the victim’s next door neighbor and friend of 25 years.
“It’s a horrible accident that you can see how dark it is and it was dark,” Joanne Gallagher said. “She wore all the reflective clothing. She wore a headlight, lamp. The dog had reflective clothing, so she wasn’t being stupid about it.”
The victim’s identity is being withheld, pending next of kin notification.
