“It’s sad and scary,” said Vaughn Gilbert of Elizabeth Township.
That was the general feeling on Monday afternoon from a lot of people who live and work around White Oak, a day after that shooting in front of the local Wendy’s.
“He was just on his bike, and it happened,” said Ian Mills, who lives and works nearby.
On Sunday, police said 33-year-old Kenneth Hayman was shot while on his motorcycle at the intersection of Jacks Run Road and Lincoln Way. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Witnesses told Channel 11 on Sunday they heard between five and nine gunshots.
Police put more than 20 evidence markers around the motorcycle as they worked to piece together what happened.
“When I heard it was the local Wendy’s that it happened at, that blows my mind because I work right beside it, because I was like, ‘wow,’” Mills said. “It’s crazy to me that they’re even open yet because it happened yesterday.”
Witnesses told Channel 11 they saw a man get out of a truck and shoot Hayman before driving away. Allegheny County Police said three to four men wearing face coverings were in that Chevy Silverado. Detectives said that the truck was found, but there’s no word on where.
“I fear for people’s safety for the simple fact of the violence that happened and how it was all executed and stuff like that,” Mills added.
Police have not given any details on what led to Hayman getting shot. They’re still looking for the suspects.
Those Channel 11 spoke to are confident police will find them.
“Honestly, I feel like there’s a lot of cameras, especially where it happened, that traffic light [is] right there,” Mills said. “I feel like there’s going to be a lot of evidence that comes through with it and I feel like they’ll be able to find them.”
Allegheny County Police are investigating. If you have any information, give them a call.
