PITTSBURGH — With winter weather expected Wednesday into Thursday, state officials are urging all drivers to take extra precautions on the roadways and avoid travel if necessary.
Officials say the storm starts Wednesday morning, with bands of snow, followed by sleet and freezing rain. The below-freezing temperatures could create icy conditions.

PennDOT and PA Turnpike crews will pre-treat roads to try and prevent ice from forming, but there may still be icy spots, especially on bridges and highway ramps.
Gusty winds will also create risks of downed power lines and trees.
During this storm, PennDOT and the PA Turnpike will implement speed and vehicle restrictions. Click here for the full list of restrictions and when they go into effect.
If you do have to drive during the storm, officials urge being prepared by having supplies like food, water, blankets, extra gloves and hats, cell phone charger, hand or foot warmers, windshield brush and scraper and any specialized items you may need in your vehicle.
