Unionized Duquesne Light Company workers could go on strike.

IBEW 29 DLC members voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday to authorize a strike. The final vote was 592-14.

The vote to authorize a strike comes amid contract negotiations with DLC.

Channel has contacted IBEW 29 to learn if a strike date has been set.

Duquesne Light Company issued a statement, saying in part that the company is committed to “reaching a fair and balanced agreement that meets the needs of our valued employees, customers and the community.”

DLC says the strike authorization vote was an “expected next step” and it doesn’t mean there will be a work stoppage.

In the event of a work stoppage, DLC says it’s “prepared to activate operational continuity plans.”
