Trial set to begin for man accused of shooting, killing local Uber driver

PITTSBURGH — After three years, the case against Calvin Crew is finally headed to trial. He’s accused of murdering Christina Spicuzza, after she picked him up in an Uber.

Christina was a mom of four, and driving for Uber.

Police say Calvin Crew put a gun to her head, tried to rob her and ultimately killed her.

While the dashcam video is chilling to watch, it’s likely the biggest piece of evidence in the case against Crew.

Now nearly three years later, the case against him is going to trial on Monday, where he faces first degree murder charges.

Channel 11 has covered this story from the beginning, from when Christina was first reported missing to when Crew was first taken into custody in February 2022, to the multiple court hearings he’s attended over the years.

Christina was reported missing after a night of driving for Uber, then days later, police found her body in the woods in Monroeville.

From there, detectives pieced together the evidence to find the murder suspect.

When officers found the dashcam video, they knew they were getting close.

At the time, Channel 11 exclusively sat down with the Allegheny County detectives on the case.

Cell phone records pointed detectives to Crew and, after a several day manhunt, he was in custody.

Then the district attorney announced they would pursue the death penalty in the case, but three years later, and weeks before the trial, the DA revealed they are taking the death penalty off the table.

Channel 11′s Gabriella DeLuca will be in the courtroom, and will be providing updates throughout the week.
