UPPER BURRELL — A tech startup is poised to pursue a huge data center redevelopment in Westmoreland County.

A firm called TECfusions announced it has bought the former Alcoa Research and Development campus in Upper Burrell, marking the second next-generation technology investment in a legacy Alcoa property in the Allegheny Valley in the past year, following the 2024 investment by Re:Build Manufacturing in the New Kensington Advanced Manufacturing Park.

It’s a huge piece of property totaling 1,395 acres slated to be redeveloped into TECfusions Keystone Connect, and includes surrounding real estate as well for a large-scale adaptive reuse project.

According to an announcement, TECfusions expects to remake the vacated office and industrial site into a data center facility that will add an additional 3 GW of capacity to the established 12 MW available now, a redevelopment the company will pursue with the support of a $2 million state grant.
