Allegheny County 911 officials confirmed police were in the 600 block of Carothers Avenue around 9:45 a.m.

Scott Township Police said the situation began after officers received reports of an exchange of gunfire between two people.

The men were believed to have barricaded themselves inside an apartment on Carothers Avenue.

Police said one man exited the house shortly after their arrival and was taken into custody without incident.

The second man remained inside, which prompted the response from SWAT units. Police said the second man came out peacefully after communication with police.

Channel 11 crews on scene saw the man surrender.

Travis Coles, 30 and Ean Stimlan, 21 have both been charged with simple assault and terroristic threats.

Coles also had an arrest warrant out of the City of Pittsburgh for terroristic threats.

“I commend the swift and coordinated efforts of the Scott Township officers, assisting mutual aid agencies and SHACOG CIRT in resolving the incident safely and without injury to residents, suspects and responding personnel,” said Scott Township Police Chief Matthrew R. Podsiadly.

Residents were asked to avoid the area but community operations are back to normal at this time.
