Pittsburgh Public Safety says emergency crews were called to the 2500 block of Bedford Avenue around 12:45 p.m. for reports of a woman who’d been shot.

First responders found the woman outside with a gunshot wound to the leg. She was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses said a man ran into a third-floor apartment in a nearby building after the shooting.

It was all hands on deck, as Pittsburgh police enlisted the help of SWAT, a K9 and a drone team as they zeroed in on their suspect, who was with a 3-year-old child.

“What we do with the drones is they can give another vantage point, they can go up to – this time, would have been – the third floor window, get a nice view in there, see if there’s people inside, see if everyone is safe,” Commander Timothy Novosel said.

That man was brought to Pittsburgh Police Headquarters after he surrendered around 2 p.m. He handed over the child, who was not hurt. Detectives wouldn’t say exactly where the shooting took place as they continue to investigate.

“We’re still working a lot of that out. There was a bullet hole in the house. We had certain reports it happened today, we had other ones that it happened a long time ago, so that’s why – when the child was in there – we surrounded the house and secured it,” Novosel said.
