An Allegheny County 911 supervisor says crews were called to the 100 block of Shara Drive at 11:18 a.m.
A second alarm was struck at 11:26 a.m., bringing additional resources to the scene
A photo shared with Channel 11 showed smoke rising from the scene.
Our crews on scene saw that the house was severely damaged.
Skyview’s fire chief told Channel 11 that part of the house collapsed, leaving crews no choice but to fight the flames from the outside.
“The rear of the structure actually did have some collapse, so we were trying to make access in the basement area in the back,” Chief Jeffrey Youkers said.
Neighbors watched helplessly as fire tore through this two-story home.
“Flames were coming out of the bottom window. It looked like the bottom part of the house,” said Lonnie Fisher, who lives across the street.
“We did have a little bit of hydrant issues on the way up. We had to hit multiple other hydrants. We hit one, and the water pressure that came up – it was barely filling the hose,” Youkers said.
A firefighter was taken away from the scene on a stretcher. It’s unclear what injuries he suffered, but officials said he was taken to the hospital.
Neighbors are hoping the family will be able to rebuild.
“I know this community up here – the Midland Hills community – will band together. Tom, Rosemary, and Mary – we love you,” Fisher said.
The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.
