PennDOT lifts speed limit reductions on parts of I-70, I-79 due to winter storm

Pittsburgh Traffic Alert

UPDATE: 1/19/25 (4:50 p.m.)

PennDOT said it has lifted its temporary speed, vehicle and lane restrictions on I-70 and I-79. They are continuing to work to clear remaining snow from roadways.

Due to a winter storm moving through Western Pennsylvania, PennDOT officials are temporarily reducing the speed limits on several roadways.

PennDOT issued a 45-mph speed restriction on I-70 in Washington and Westmoreland counties, as well as I-79 in Greene and Washington counties.

While this restriction is active, commercial vehicles must use the right lane.

PennDOT has also issued vehicle restrictions for interstates in the eastern part of the state.

Officials say PennDOT crews have been treating roadways, with the primary goal of keeping them passable. Roads are not completely free of ice and snow. Crews will continue treating roads until the snow stops.

Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
