Sources: Former Democratic Pittsburgh mayoral candidate Tony Moreno plans to run again as Republican

PITTSBURGH — Former Democratic Pittsburgh mayoral candidate Tony Moreno plans to run for the position again, but this time as a Republican.

Sources tell Channel 11 Moreno plans to challenge current mayor Ed Gainey in his bid for re-election.

Moreno is a retired Pittsburgh police officer. He placed third in the last Democratic primary but re-entered the race as a Republican.

Sources tell Channel 11 Moreno plans to make an official announcement Friday afternoon.
