Small plane makes emergency landing on Beaver County Expressway

A small plane landed on a Beaver County roadway on Sunday afternoon.

A Beaver County 911 dispatch official tells Channel 11 that per Pennsylvania State Police, the plane made an emergency landing on the Beaver Valley Expressway (I-376) around 1 p.m. PennDOT’s 511 Map indicates the plane landed near Exit 29 to Beaver Falls.

Medics did not respond to the emergency landing, the dispatch official said.

The Chippewa Township Volunteer Fire Department said the driver of the Pitts S1 aircraft noticed engine trouble and realized they would not be able to safely return to the Beaver County Airport.

High-tension wires and power lines created tough conditions for the driver was able to land on the shoulder.

The plane had a wingspan of over 17 feet. It was towed away on a flatbed truck escorted by state troopers.
