FINDLAY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A young woman is among the victims of a devastating house fire in Allegheny County.
Two people and six pets were killed when a fire broke out in the Findlay Township home, including Kaylei Guiney, 20
Bill Guiney says Kaylei, his daughter, and her 22-year-old boyfriend, Thomas, were killed along with the family’s 4 dogs and two cats.
“From what I was told, she was found, that they were - her and her boyfriend were together. That they didn’t wake up, which is the only thing holding me together, because the alternative is way worse,” Bill said.
Kaylei’s mom, Jessica and her fiancé were able to get out of the house. Guiney says Jessica is still in the hospital recovering from her injuries.
“It breaks my heart like even though it has hit - obviously haven’t processed all of it yet,” Guiney said.
Kaylei was a student at C.C.A.C. and huge animal lover - even forgoing gifts for her birthday.
“Instead of presents, she wanted people to donate to the humane society, and that’s the type of heart that she has and you don’t see that in many people,” Bill said.
He says he plans to honor her memory by living each day to the fullest - just as she did.
“You’ve just gotta embrace everything that you do and just try to make the best out of everything, and that’s what she did and she always has done.”
Guiney says what the family needs now are prayers for Kaylei’s mom to make a full recovery. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused the fire.
