GRANT TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man was shot and killed by troopers in Indiana County after state police said he started a fire inside his home, went to the roof and began firing shots at them.
On Sunday, around 5 p.m., troopers were called to the home in the 3000 block of Dixonville Road in the Village of Deckers Point, Grant Township, for a reported physical assault between a man and his neighbor.
Police said the suspect had fired shots in the area before running into his nearby home and starting a fire inside.
The man then climbed onto the roof of the home with a shotgun and fired at troopers on the ground below, according to a release from state police. Troopers returned fire, killing the suspect.
“It is certainly a traumatic incident. We are very, very fortunate that our troopers were not injured,” said Trooper Cliff Greenfield with Pennsylvania State Police.
Firefighters responded to the scene and put out the fire at the home.
No one else was injured during the incident.
The Indiana County District Attorney’s Office and the Troop A Major Case Team are investigating.
The troopers involved have been placed on administrative duty as part of state police policy.
