Multiple people close to the Davis family, who lived in the house, told Channel 11 the family was out of town at the time, so the questions remain: who is the person that died in this fatal fire and why were they inside of the house?
Neighbors who live on Perrysville Avenue said the flames spread quickly as people rushed in to help.
“My husband and a few of our neighbors ran over just to double-check that our neighbors weren’t home. Their van wasn’t there, so we figured that they weren’t home,” said Chamar Clary, who lives across the street.
On Tuesday morning, Allegheny County police detectives were back out at the house on Perrysville Avenue, as the investigation continues.
“They were out of town, so the shock of driving home, not knowing what you’re going to face when you get here,” said Clint Kerley, senior pastor at St. Stephen’s Church in Sewickley. “I think everyone here was just devastated for them, just imagining losing everything.”
The Avonworth community and surrounding areas are helping the family in any way they can. St. Stephen’s Church in Sewickley has started an online hardship fund for the Davis family to help with immediate expenses.
“…Clothes, computers, sports equipment and stuff that you just need day-to-day that you suddenly don’t have,” Kerley said.
Community members have also started a GoFundMe.
“They’re extremely, extremely kind people,” Clary said. “They definitely deserve the help, any help that anyone can give.”
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released the name of the person who died.
