PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh family says they’re not getting answers after a woman drove into their home, doing so much damage that part of the house was condemned.
This happened at 2:30 Saturday morning on Perrott Avenue in the city’s Brighton Heights neighborhood. The family said they haven’t heard from the driver or police, so they’re turning to Channel 11 to get answers.
Police tell us, based on the concerns raised by the victim, supervisors are reviewing the officers’ response and the report of the incident.
Homeowner Monique Osburn reached out to Channel 11 following the crash. She said that while she and her husband were asleep Saturday morning, they heard a massive crash.
“The house shook, really bad, and it was just a loud boom,” Osburn said.
Monique Osburn said she and her husband ran outside to find a Volvo SUV literally wedged in their home. We could see the tire tracks where the SUV came up into the yard, before flying through the air, blasting through stone and a pillar holding up the front porch.
“Thankfully, nobody was injured,” Osburn said. “She could have killed somebody.”
A Pittsburgh building inspector came out and put a blue condemned sign on the front porch. That’s where you can see a hole leading into the family’s basement. Osburn said when the SUV was pulled out of the house and towed away, someone came to pick up the driver and that was the last she heard from her.
“I don’t even know the lady’s name,” Osburn said. “They didn’t give me her information.”
Osburn said she hasn’t been given a police report either, so she can’t file a claim with insurance.
“There’s a hole in my house, now I’m kind of angry and the anger is setting in,” Osburn added. “I’m not getting any answers and it’s kind of getting brushed off. Nobody is really helping.”
Now the family says they’re scrambling to find contractors before the holidays and based on the damage done to the finished portion of the basement, they’re concerned the problem runs much deeper.
“I’d like to get a structural engineer out here to assess how bad the damage is because I’m sure there is foundation damage.”
Pittsburgh Police say they’re still investigating and no arrests have been made.
