Police officer bitten by dog in Glassport; 3 people charged

GLASSPORT, Pa. — A police officer was taken to a hospital after being bitten by a dog in Glassport.

Allegheny County dispatchers said emergency crews were called to the 600 block of Cherry Way at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Glassport Police Chief Shawn DeVerse said an officer was bitten by the dog in her left leg while at the scene.

The officer fired one shot that hit the dog to get it off.

The officer has since been released from the hospital, but has had some difficulty feeling in her feet and toes. Police said the bite went “to the bone.”

The dog was taken to a veterinarian in Monroeville. As of Sunday, it was expected to make a full recovery.

The dog was tethered but broke loose before the attack, police say.

After the dog was shot, 3 people, Katelin Munshower, Carl Jones and Jesus Emerick, were taken into custody, court documents say.

They are being accused of aggravated assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.
