HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A police chase ran through Aliquippa and ended in a crash in Hopewell Township.

The Aliquippa Police Department said an officer saw a white BMW traveling at a high rate of speed on Kennedy Blvd. near Grand Avenue on Dec. 22.

The vehicle was reportedly swerving in and out of lanes without using a turn signal and was cutting other drivers off.

Police tried to pull the BMW over but said it continued to flee at a high rate of speed. Aliquippa officers chased the vehicle, which they said was still speeding, up Main Street from Franklin Avenue, onto Knoll Street and right onto Wade Street.

The BMW turned left onto Maratta Road and took off. It crashed into a utility pole near Euclid Road in Hopewell.

Police said the driver was Emmanuel Gyadu Mantey, 22, of Aliquippa. He was not hurt and was taken into custody without incident.

Some community members lost power because of the damage done to the pole. A stop sign was also damaged.

Mantey had no reported criminal history before this incident.

He now faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police and multiple summary traffic and driving violations.
