Dignitaries from all across the region gathered to celebrate, calling this a game-changer.

“This project started over a decade ago, and we were forced to confront the fact we lost our hub and 70% of the revenue that hub was generating,” said Rich Fitzgerald, former Allegheny County executive.

The new terminal is an upgrade years in the making, and it’s just about ready to welcome the public.

“What we’re celebrating is a state-of-the-art transportation hub that’s worthy of a great city, that’s worthy of a great state,” said Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA).

“I’m a dad to four. I’m especially excited about the changes for families,” said Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-17th District). “That means changing tables in all the restrooms. Places mothers can nurse. A new kids’ play area.”

A number of lawmakers, past and present, spoke, calling this new terminal a gateway to the future.

“It’s been a total team effort with local, federal and state government,” said Gov. Josh Shapiro, adding, “811,000 square foot terminal a reality.”

“This is our region’s front door for people looking to expand business or people simply returning home,” said Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato.

“This project is an incredible example of when people work together,” said Rep. Mike Kelly (R-16th District).

“This is one of the biggest infrastructure investments we’ve seen in a generation,” said Rep. Summer Lee (D-12th District).

The ribbon cutting was followed by an open house.

An opening date for the terminal has still not been set.
