PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh City Council has delayed a vote on the city’s next police chief.
Councilman Anthony Coghill on Tuesday called for a public hearing and the council agreed.
Coghill said it will give the public the opportunity to tell elected leaders what they want to see in the new chief.
Mayor Ed Gainey sent acting chief Chris Ragland’s name to council last week.

As Channel 11 previously reported, the Pittsburgh NAACP is calling for a community meeting to get to know Ragland.
Coghill said he will schedule the hearing in the next 10 days. The council will not vote on Ragland until after the hearing.
