The teen was flown to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
He has been identified as 18-year-old Kendric Curtis, who officials tell Channel 11 was a senior in high school.
Investigators said a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agent shot the victim.
Neighbors who lived in the area said they heard four gunshots.
Pennsylvania State Police said the ATF was working with the FBI in a joint investigation in the area before the shooting.
Neither the ATF nor the state police has provided any further details about what the investigation included.
State police are leading the investigation into the shooting.
Aliquippa’s Mayor Dwan Walker is calling for calmness as the investigation happens.
“We’re asking for clarity and calmness. We’re asking for people to search their inner self, take a deep breath, get all the facts before you make a snap judgment,” Walker said. “Let’s see what these next 24 to 72 hours hold.”
The Aliquippa Junior/Senior High School principal posted on Facebook after the incident, saying, “You are not alone. Support is available for you in the library throughout the day. Whether you need to talk, sit quietly, or spend time with the therapy dog, our support teams are here for you.”
