Teen facing charges after stabbing at Ringgold High School football stadium leaves person injured

MONONGAHELA, Pa. — A 17-year-old is facing two felony charges after a stabbing at a youth football game Sunday afternoon at Joe Montana Stadium in Monongahela.

Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh confirmed to Channel 11 that Daron Carpenter, 17, has been charged as an adult with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon on school property.

The call to 911 came in at 1:36 p.m. Sunday.

Washington County 911 officials say a 19-year-old man was reportedly stabbed in the abdomen and airlifted to Allegheny General Hospital with what were described as “extensive abdominal injuries.”

Zack Weaver, whose 11-year-old son plays youth football for a team not involved in Sunday’s game, said the incident hit too close to home.

“That could’ve been my son at that Ringgold stadium,” Weaver said.

He told Channel 11 his wife was shopping near the stadium when the stabbing occurred and called him immediately afterward.

“She said someone got stabbed. It was a teenager that stabbed somebody, and I was like, ‘What do you mean?’” Weaver said.

Weaver said safety is now a top concern for parents like him, who regularly attend youth football games with their children.

“These are teenagers,” he said. “These kids aren’t getting paid. They’re just little kids trying to learn football.”

The Ringgold School District released a statement after the incident, clarifying that the event was not school-sponsored.

Superintendent Randall Skrinjorich also released the following statement:

“In light of the ongoing investigation into the incident that occurred earlier today at Joe Montana Stadium, the District has made the decision to close all schools for instruction tomorrow, Sept. 8, 2025.

“While there will be no formal classes, school buildings will remain open, and counseling services will be available for any student who may need support during this time.

“We understand that this decision may cause an inconvenience for some of our families, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility. After careful consideration, we believe this is the least disruptive and most supportive option for our students and staff at this time.

“The safety and well-being of our school community remain our highest priorities. We will continue to work closely with local authorities and will keep you informed of any new development.

“Thank you for your continued support and understanding.”

Weaver said the lack of security at youth sporting events has long been a concern and hopes this incident will prompt action.

“Half the time, whenever I’m with my son at games, there’s like one security guard in the whole stadium,” he said. “There should be a security guard at the gate, a couple inside the stadium, and one when we leave at the exit.”

Channel 11 is working to learn more about the victim’s name and their condition and will provide updates as they become available.
