PITTSBURGH — A man is unaccounted for after a two-alarm fire partially collapsed an auto garage overnight in Pittsburgh.
The fire broke out after midnight in the 700 block of Hillsboro Street in the city’s Sheraden neighborhood.
Pittsburgh public safety officials say police discovered the fire and saw flames coming from the second story of the structure.
The building partially collapsed, causing the roof and third floor to fall onto the second floor. Firefighters have since established a fire watch to monitor and extinguish flare-ups, which there have already been at least two of.
Officials say a man is believed to have been inside the structure and is currently unaccounted for. Police used drones to assist in search and rescue, but did not locate anyone.
The Department of Permits, Licenses, and Inspections, by Saturday evening, had awarded a contract for emergency demolition of the structure. The process begins by securing the building so investigators can search for the unaccounted-for man.
Officials say the recovery efforts will start by 1 p.m. Sunday.
Police will remain on scene until the building is demolished.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
