A North Versailles man was arrested in Georgia Thursday, days after authorities say he failed to show up to his sexual assault trial in Allegheny County.
The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office says Ertmon Winston, 50, of North Versailles, is facing more than a dozen charges on accusations he sexually assaulted a young girl.
Online court records show jury selection for his trial was set for Monday. But, according to the sheriff’s office, Winston never showed.
When Winston failed to appear, a bench warrant was issued, and detectives quickly learned he was in Georgia town about halfway between Atlanta and Montgomery, Alabama.
The sheriff’s office says police in Georgia took Winston into custody Thursday after a brief struggle. He’s currently jailed in Georgia awaiting extradition back to Allegheny County.
