PITTSBURGH — The president of the Pittsburgh NAACP sent a letter to the Mayor and Council today asking them to postpone the confirmation of Chris Ragland.
Just yesterday, Mayor Ed Gainey nominated acting chief Ragland to be the permanent chief.

In the letter obtained by 11 Investigates, the NAACP asked for the delay to allow for a public forum where community members can meet with the chief.
They say the appointment of a chief is a “significant decision that directly impacts the safety, trust and well-being of Pittsburgh residents.”
And they say this will ensure transparency and build trust between law enforcement and the public.
Channel 11 has reached out to the City of Pittsburgh for a response and is waiting to hear back.
