Teen dies in southbound I-79 crash in Lawrence County

PLAIN GROVE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A teen is dead after a crash that shut down a large portion of southbound I-79 was closed in Lawrence County near the Mercer County line on Sunday evening.

The crash occurred on I-79 southbound around 9:41 p.m. Sunday between the Grove City and Slippery Rock exits.

Per a Pennsylvania State Police report, a vehicle traveling north crossed the into the grass median then into the southbound lane, hitting the driver side of a tractor trailer. The vehicle then went under the trailer and into the west median.

The driver of the northbound vehicle died on scene. PSP identified the driver as Gavin Lohr, 19, of Huntingdon.

All southbound lanes of I-79 in the area of the crash were closed for hours while investigators were on scene.
