Man facing charges after police chase reaching 100 mph in Moon Township

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man is facing charges after a lengthy police chase through Moon Township.

Police were told to be on the lookout for a silver/gray Hyundai Sonata with a Colorado license plate that fled from a traffic stop in Franklin Park. Those officers had tried to pull the vehicle over on Tuesday because its rear brake lights were out.

The vehicle was spotted in Mooncrerst in Moon Township on Wednesday at around 4 p.m. Officers followed it but said the driver took off and led them on a chase that reached speeds up to 100 mph down several streets.

A criminal complaint said the vehicle drove on the wrong side of the road at points and blew through several stop signs and traffic lights.

Officers ended the chase for safety reasons but they said they later found the vehicle abandoned in the area of Thorn Run Road and Old Thorn Run Road. Kristoff Jerland Bailey, 18, was walking nearby.

Court documents said Bailey admitted he was the driver of the vehicle when police began questioning him. He told officers he was “rushing to get some water” because his “car was overheating.”

Police searched the car and found multiple license plates from Colorado and Pennsylvania and a handgun.

Officers said Bailey was found with several IDs that had multiple addresses, including Brooklyn, Virginia Beach and Corapolis.

Police said they did an immigration query and learned Bailey was supposed to return to Jamaica in January but failed to do so.
