EAST HUNTINGDON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police are looking for the man who they say broke into the East Huntingdon Aldi around 2 a.m. Monday. Troopers said he cut a hole in the roof right above the Aldi office.
“Obviously, the fact that the roof was attempted to be cut into, the fact that he was cutting into the area where the office was, that’s also concerning,” Trooper Steve Limani said.
“It makes you wonder, to me, it sounds like he knew where exactly he needed to get through the roof,” added Marsha Forys of Mount Pleasant.
“It’s amazing that he was trying to go through the roof to get down,” said George Killinger of Scottdale.
Police said the man was unable to get inside the store through the roof. So then, they said he went to the front door, pried it open, and then used that pry bar to smash a window of the office.
Troopers said he got away with cash and coins.
“I was shocked,” Forys said. “I wouldn’t have expected it.”
Based on surveillance photos, police said he was wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, black shoes, had a blue backpack, a light blue watch on his left wrist and had a white bandana around his face.
Now they are asking anyone who might recognize him or may have seen something to report it.
“We’ve been in contact with several other businesses in that area, we’re obviously working on getting any video surveillance that we may be able to get,” Limani said. “So, if you reside in that area, happened to be driving around, sometimes there’s garbage people out grabbing garbage, or people delivering papers, things of that nature, and you see suspicious activity that you can pass on to us, please contact us at the barracks.”
Shoppers are hopeful police can find the suspect.
“Nobody likes to see that kind of stuff around here,” Forys said. “It’s unusual.”
