PITTSBURGH — Some work is temporarily stopped in Market Square.
A sign posted by the City Department of Permits, Licenses and Inspections cites a lack of permitting and inspections at the site.
The major project has been going on for months. Channel 11 has reported on it extensively. It’s all part of the $600 million Downtown revitalization project ahead of the NFL Draft.
According to PLI, foundation and footing work was done without inspection and steel anchoring was erected without a third-party report or inspection.
Channel 11 reached out to the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership about the situation.
A spokesperson told us they and their construction partners take the permitting process seriously. The statement went on to say:
“Earlier this week, there was a miscommunication related to one aspect of the ongoing Market Square Modernization construction. The matter has been resolved, and the permit will be issued on Monday morning. All other work is continuing through the weekend, and there is no impact on the overall project schedule.”
Councilman Bobby Wilson, who represents part of Market Square, echoed the PDP’s statement, adding that the project remains on track.
