‘It’s not only 1 tragedy but it’s 4’: Friends, neighbors remember family shot inside local home

NORTH SEWICKLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Several North Sewickley community members are devastated by a family tragedy that left a mother, father and two teenage sons dead.

The youngest son, Cody Hunt, 16, was a junior at Riverside High School. Classmates and teachers said he was kind-hearted and always helped others. They said he will be missed.

Cody played the saxophone in the marching band and was a member of the National Honor Society. The school district said he was passionate about history and aviation and planned on applying to the Air Force Academy to become a pilot.

Cody and his mother volunteered at the Air Heritage Aviation Museum where Greg, the hanger chief, told Channel 11′s Antoinette DelBel they were wonderful people willing to do anything. He said everyone at the museum is devastated.

The family of four all died from what investigators are calling a murder-suicide.

Police believe Clifford Hunt Jr., 19, shot his father Clifford, 51, his mother Michelle, 48, and his brother Cody, 16, before turning the gun on himself inside their North Sewickley home Sunday night.

“We can’t speculate on a motive right now,” said Beaver County DA Nate Bible. “The North Sewickley Police did a phenomenal job in the last, it’s not even been 24 hours, interviewing several individuals. They still have people they need to talk to.”

Michelle, who friends say loved her animals, and her husband, were found dead in the home. The brothers later died from their injuries Monday afternoon.

Friends and neighbors are heartbroken.

“It’s not only one tragedy but it’s four all at the same time,” said Autumn Ashurst who knew Michelle. “People are one, desperate for answers and two, desperate to see how they can help out.”

Investigators are hoping to get more answers as to what exactly happened inside the family’s home after the autopsy reports are done.

Meantime, the Riverside Beaver County School District has counselors and therapy dogs on hand for students and staff all week long.
