Industry Borough residents frustrated over brown water voice concerns to municipal authority

BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — David Butts tells Channel 11 brown water comes out of every faucet in his house in Industry Borough. Butts says it’s been going on for five years and he had to buy a water filtration system for his entire house.

“This one here is a hot water tank flush. And this one here came out of my kitchen sink,” said Butts.

He’s not alone. Homeowners brought samples of their brown water and lots of questions to the Industry Borough Municipal Authority meeting.

Things really got tense when one of the board members was caught with his head down and eyes closed.

The Borough’s engineer told the crowd they flush the Fire Hydrants twice a year and tried to answer other questions about the age and quality of their water pipes. Borough officials also passed out the 2021 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report which claims their drinking water meets federal and state requirements.

“The quality of the water destroys everything. I’ve lost clothes. I’ve had to get new washing machines. I actually went through a triple-stage house filtration system,” said Butts.

The engineer for the borough told neighbors that they took seven samples that they plan to send out to be tested and so they can figure out why their water looks brown or black.
