WASHINGTON — The Hollywood Casino at the Meadows racing family has suffered a devastating loss.

27-year-old Hunter Myers died after a racetrack accident that happened Wednesday.

Myers was a rising star in the harness racing world, winning thousands of races.

His colleagues tell Channel 11 he was kind, funny and determined.

“This has been the saddest day ever at the track that I’ve ever encountered,” said Michelle Venneri, a longtime horse groomer.

The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association released a statement saying in part that Hunter was a daily part of many of their lives.

“I’ve been here most of my life since 1986, we are all family here. We lost our family member. Hunter was the best. He’s so young, so talented, so much to give the world. Oh my God. He’s won so many races already,” said Michelle.

Hunter was a driver in the 11th race of the day, when there was a chain reaction crash involving six horses and multiple injuries. Myers was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he died Thursday.

A GoFundMe has been up for Hunter’s family. Click here if you’d like to donate.
