Man accused of assaulting 93-year-old woman is homeless sex offender, police say

PITTSBURGH — New details are emerging about the man accused of brutally attacking a 93-year-old woman on her way home from seeing a play in Downtown Pittsburgh.

On court documents, Ronny Hough’s address is now listed as the Allegheny County Jail — but prior to Tuesday, ti was noted as “transient — in the area of Negley and Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh.”

Pittsburgh Police confirmed to Channel 11 that Hough was homeless when they say he followed a 93-year-old woman home from downtown on a PRT bus, broke into her house, then beat and raped her inside of Troy Hill home.

Hough is a registered sex offender — and that title comes from six years ago — when he sexually assaulted a child under the age of 13 years old.

Because of the severity of that assault, Hough was listed as a tier three sex offender. Those offenders are required to appear in person at an approved verification site four times a year. But, because he’s homeless that means he had to appear monthly.

Despite appearing monthly, it wasn’t enough to keep the community safe.

“I’ve been in communication with the police as soon as I found out. It’s such a horrific situation,” Wilson said. “Try and gather all of the details and do whatever we can do to make something like this never happen again.”

Hough is currently in jail without bond.
