‘Glass everywhere’: Multiple cars broken into in Arlington, Carrick neighborhoods

PITTSBURGH — Davida Kerns was one of several Carrick residents who reportedly came outside Tuesday morning to find their car windows smashed.

“It’s just sad, it’s crazy that this would even happen,” Kerns told Channel 11. “Somebody rang the door and just said that my car window was smashed. I went outside and saw there’s glass everywhere.”

Kerns and other residents reported the overnight break-ins on Meredith, Sprucewood, and Alries Streets, as well as Birmingham and Westmont Avenues.

Kerns says her wallet was stolen from inside her car and her bank notified her that someone used one of her cards this morning at Giant Eagle.

“We work hard for our money and we don’t deserve this,” Kerns said.

Just a short distance away, in Pittsburgh’s Arlington neighborhood, another woman’s car was also targeted overnight.

“I was on Facebook and I was just reading, ‘Oh, my car got hit, my car got hit,’ ... I just want it to be known that we got hit too,” Jennifer said. “They didn’t take anything. Just for the fun of it, I guess, they decided they were going to bust out my window.”

Jennifer reported the break-in to Pittsburgh police.

She wants to see the department do more to prevent this from happening again and she wants those responsible held accountable.

“[I’m] very, very, very aggravated, very pissed off. I work every day. Every month my paycheck goes to this car. I’m very upset,” Jennifer said. “I don’t know what the answer is, but the city needs to do something because this is out of control.”

Channel 11 reached out to Pittsburgh police for more information about the reported break-ins to see if there are any suspects. So far, we have not heard back.
